Access to land is crucial for rural women in Rwanda to secure livelihoods and support their families. Despite a legal framework that guarantees equal inheritance rights, cultural beliefs and a lack of awareness often hinder women from claiming these rights.

Anastasie Uwitije, a 57-year-old farmer from Ngoma District, illustrates this challenge. By understanding inheritance law, she was able to secure her rightful place on her family’s land, showcasing the importance of legal knowledge in empowering women.
