From Corporate Life to Beekeeping: Nurcan’s Path to Sustainable Apiculture
January 19, 2026
Nurcan Tekneci, 36, left a successful career in Istanbul to become a beekeeper in rural Düzce, Türkiye. Nutrition expert and FAO Champion Dilara Koçak visited her to explore how, in a region challenged by youth unemployment and urban migration, Nurcan is building a sustainable livelihood producing honey, royal jelly, and handcrafted bee-based products such as wax candles. Far from the city’s relentless pace, with FAO’s training and support, Nurcan is scaling up her production, helping revitalize her village and securing her future in apiculture.
