Equal Rights for Women and Girls

About This Collection

Equal Rights for Women is a major category, like energy or climate change, of sustainability and the voices in this collection are of the present and the past.

If we don't address human rights and social justice of which the sustainability keywords and phrases include children's rights and welfare; human trafficking, slavery, and women's rights and roles, then as David Korten points out, we will not be able to come to terms with the limits of the planet and not even technology will be able to save us.

Aisha's Song

Partially blinded by an unknown illness aged 4 and sent out to work on the tough streets of Kano in Nigeria aged 9, Aisha Sani Abdullahi's life chances were not great. However, a chance encounter sent Aisha's life in a completely different direction.

Beautifully shot and musically lush, Aisha's Song is a touching and uplifting story of female empowerment from a part of the world where women are all too often overlooked.

Girl Hub is a strategic collaboration between the UK's Department for International Development (DFID) and the Nike Foundation. Girl Hub helps transform the lives of adolescent girls living in poverty by unleashing their potential and empowering them with the assets they need to end poverty for themselves, their families, and their communities.

The film was made by Grain Media for Girl Hub and to find out more about some of the issues at the heart of the film please go visit their site.
