The Year is a global call to action to increase investment, strengthen rural women's livelihoods, and promote their leadership. Empowering women improves well-being, boosts productivity, strengthens climate resilience, and accelerates progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.

The WECAN Indigenous Women of the Ecuadorian Amazon Reforestation and Forest Protection project, led by Kichwa leader Patricia Gualinga, is actively restoring and defending 135,000 hectares of Sarayaku territory.
