Because Yellowstone is the last intact ecosystem in the temperate latitudes of the Planet, its importance goes beyond its boundaries. Yellowstone’s ecosystem, which has been operating for thousands of years, is now undergoing rapid changes as a result of global warming. Paleoecologist Cathy Whitlock describes her research in wild places like Yellowstone, and her quest to understand the consequences of future climate change in light of her understanding of the past. Dr. Cathy Whitlock is a Regents Professor Emerita in Earth Sciences at Montana State University and nationally and internationally recognized for her research and leadership activities in the field of climate and environmental change. Her studies of Yellowstone’s environmental history began in the 1980s when she started to collect sediment cores from lakes in search of information about past vegetation and climate change. This research continues to the present day in Yellowstone and in comparable places around the world. She served as lead author of the 2017 Montana Climate Assessment, which has inspired climate-change discussions across the state and led to the recent Montana Climate Solutions Plan, a consensus document for Montana’s future. Cathy has received numerous awards and honors from professional societies and organizations, and in 2018, she became the first person from a Montana university to be elected to the National Academy of Sciences. Having had some success with college endorsements, Jessie has been focusing on Catholic colleges and universities. She has reached out to community leaders as well. When not engaged in CCL work, she is busy babysitting for her two grandsons. Andy Panelli is on the leadership team of CCL’s Catholic Action Team and is a member of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Encyclical Working Group. Gender roles are primarily socially constructed, and we can help shape future thoughts and behavior of a new generation by having an ongoing dialog. Dr. Wegner discusses inappropriate sexual behavior and violence towards women; she advocates changing the cultural dialog and socially constructed gender roles by having difficult conversations with our kids now. It's not just about parenting, it's about leadership argues Dr. Wegner. Dr. Wegner is a clinical psychologist and behavioral medicine specialist. She specializes in stress management, and the importance of maintaining ‘self’ as a parent. Big data can generate useful insights that can be as relevant towards fostering environmental sustainability. Wai Lin is one of the founders of Nyanex and he is currently working as a Full-Stack Developer at Thate Pan Hub. He is also currently working as a freelance academic tutor and freelance web developer. In addition, Wai Lin is also a community activist and a founder of Revillux Charity Organization. He had also worked as a team coach of YIS Eagles Robotics Team. This month, Governor Gavin Newsom’s administration reported a quarter of a million Californians experiencing homelessness requested help in 2020—numbers that skyrocketed from previous estimates in some Bay Area counties. The Golden State is lauded for its job opportunities and diverse population, but it’s also the state with some of the highest housing and transportation costs in the nation. Now, Californians are demanding change, and a cross-sectional group of affordable housing and homelessness advocates created Roadmap Home 2030, a definitive plan to end homelessness and create affordable homes for all over the next 10 years. Housing California, the California Housing Partnership, and dozens of experts and advocates identified 57 policy solutions to create affordable homes, protect low-income renters, end homelessness and ensure racial equity. With their detailed plan of creative solutions, coupled with dedicated leadership, this ambitious group believes a better California is doable. The wealth gap and a shortage of affordable homes in the state prohibits Californians from building healthy and fulfilling lives. With considerable energy and influence, this coalition of housing advocates are seeking to make bold, structural change to create an equitable future where everyone has a safe place to live.
