Oakland is reimagining public safety funding and policing amidst nationwide calls for racial justice. The Defund OPD campaign, launched five years ago by the Anti Police-Terror Project (APTP), aims to transform the criminal justice system.

Join a discussion with campaign leaders Cat Brooks and James Burch. Brooks, co-founder of APTP, developed community-based responses to police violence and is executive director of the Justice Teams Network. Burch, policy director for the Justice Teams Network and president of the National Lawyers Guild of the Bay Area, brings legal expertise and personal experience to the movement.

James Poetzscher, a 17-year-old high school student, exemplifies this. He has authored four research papers, mapped global air pollution decline for the European Environmental Bureau (published by BBC, Reuters), and created a global map inventory on his website greeenhousemaps.com. He also built an air quality data portal and writes for major media. James aims to inspire young people to take collective action on these century-defining issues.
