Science has given us a realistic picture of what Earth will look like with uninhibited levels of climate change: increased extreme weather events, crippled economies, and a world where those with the least are the hardest hit. What would a radically re-envisioned future look like? What solutions do we need to replace tomorrow’s doom-and-gloom projections with thriving cities, renewed political consciousness, equitable societies and carbon-free economies?
Join us with climate journalist and The Future Earth author Eric Holthaus and Project Drawdown Vice President Katharine Wilkinson for a conversation on reimagining our role in creating climate solutions.

Individual sustainability is a crucial, yet often overlooked, aspect of broader sustainability discussions. It involves cultivating harmony, interconnection, and high self-awareness across one's values, thoughts, and behaviors.
This includes maintaining increasing control over one's physical, emotional, social, philosophical, environmental, and intellectual well-being. Key skills for individual sustainability are awareness, motivation, and intentional self-development, coupled with a value system that recognizes the interconnectedness of all global biological systems and humanity's appropriate place in the natural world.

I was snorkeling in the Philippines last summer when I had a shocking awakening of how polluted our oceans have become.
Being the master inventor that I am, I designed this machinery, that when combined with artificial intelligence, would be able to pick up and sort the garbage in the oceans.
We should all strive toward a world with zero waste, where all of our oceans are salty blue, and beautiful and where pollution would be a thing of the past. Eric is a 10 year old student from Mulgrave elementary who is super stoked about robots and AI. He wants to invent cool stuff where robots do the work, leaving humans to create and enjoy life more. Eric’s love of nature motivates him to find ways to solve problems faced by the Earth, starting with ocean pollution. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Eric Sanderson presents a 3D map of pre-city Mannahatta, revealing its original ecology of hills, rivers, and wildlife. This detailed reconstruction, accurate down to the block, illustrates how Times Square was once a wetland, providing an excellent introduction to landscape ecology and the Muir Web.

How can we solve climate change? Co-founder & CEO of the climate education charity ClimateScience, and former MIT & Facebook researcher Eric Steinberger says we are measuring the wrong things when quantifying past progress on solving climate change. He argues that innovation is key and that “we need to think of solving climate change like we think of the moon landing. The people building the tools that can enable a zero-carbon society are the equivalent of astronauts." When he was 14, he started studying Physics and Computer Science online through MIT, YouTube, and by reading a lot.
At 21, he has published 2 papers and has worked in research roles MIT, Facebook AI, TU Vienna, and Luxembourg University - all before without completing even an Undergraduate degree.
Consequently, Eric understands the impact online education can have. With www.climate-science.com, he wants to help the next generation of brilliant climate enthusiasts learn how to solve the world’s biggest problem: climate change.
