Emma, an Environment & Sustainability Expert and Stubborn Optimist, advocates for building connections to foster climate conversations. She has developed environmental and sustainability programs for major organizations including Magna International, Target, and Knoll Inc., focusing on compliance, risk management, sustainable design, and supply chain transparency.

With degrees in Environmental Science and Environmental Communications, Emma is a recognized expert, having spoken at the World Environmental Education Congress on environmental connection and stewardship. Fariha, 23, launched a business with a $500 micro-grant from the NATEJA project. The Non-Formal Approach to Training, Education and Jobs in Afghanistan (NATEJA) supports aspiring entrepreneurs and fosters private sector job creation in rural areas.

NATEJA provides funding, mentoring, business counseling, and training in business, accounting, and marketing. To date, 2,500 micro-entrepreneurs (30% women) have been selected from 17,000 applicants across Kabul, Nangarhar, and Balkh provinces. The Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled implements this initiative.

Ferrill, a staff member in DePaul’s Department of English, shares her first-hand experience limiting plastic consumption in her talk, "What I learned the year I tried to give up plastic."

In 2015, driven by environmental concerns, Ferrill challenged herself to avoid plastic for a year, documenting her struggles and unavoidable items on her blog, dumpingplastic.com. The idea originated from a writing class she taught at DePaul University.

Grant led the Union Army to victory, advanced Reconstruction as President, and forged a compromise that saved the nation, albeit at a cost to civil rights.

This program, featuring Bret Baier and moderated by Melissa Caen, was part of The Commonwealth Club's Good Lit series. Founded in 1903, the Club is the nation's oldest and largest public affairs forum, hosting diverse speakers and over 400 annual events.
