Transportation policymakers face a dual challenge: electrifying the U.S. vehicle fleet and securing stable funding. As motor fuel taxes become obsolete, new models like mileage fees, carbon taxes, or higher registration fees are essential to fund infrastructure and services.

This program, supported by the Mineta Transportation Institute, features U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Senator Alex Padilla, and Caltrans Director Toks Omishakin. They will discuss these critical issues and opportunities. View the full event program and panelists here: Electronic Program.

Join us for a program with Oglala Lakota leader Jim Warne, co-presented by the Climate Reality Project Bay Area Chapter. Warne, an award-winning filmmaker, discusses Native American history and building relationships for climate progress.

Warne notes many Americans lack accurate Native American history knowledge, often receiving a narrow perspective despite over 550 tribes and 200 languages. He emphasizes historical inaccuracies contribute to an "ignorance by design," hindering understanding.

Karl-Henrik Robèrt, a Swedish cancer scientist and leading figure in the global sustainability movement, developed the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development, also known as The Natural Step Framework. This framework provides a scientific approach to implementing sustainability, offering the "missing piece" for effective action.

Arising from extensive consultations across diverse sectors, the framework outlines system conditions for sustainability. Robèrt, an internationally renowned change agent and Blue Planet Prize laureate, even secured the imprimatur of the King of Sweden. You can download a picture book explaining this concept here.
