SME Climate Hub: Supporting SMEs to decarbonise Wednesday 3 November COP26, WMB Business Pavilion, Blue Zone, SEC, Glasgow Globally, SMEs account for over 90% of businesses. Climate action by SMEs is therefore essential if we are to achieve our global goal of an inclusive net zero economy, consistent with the ambition of the Race to Zero. This session explored some of the challenges and opportunities for engaging SMEs, highlighting action by government, finance and businesses, as well as featuring SMEs who have already made the SME Climate Commitment. The session also introduced the SME Climate Hub tool being launched by BSR and CISL that will provide a free online training course for global SMEs in decarbonisation. But who are the designers leading this transition? These are the highlights from the episode that was streamed live on our channels on 25th May. In this episode of The Circular Economy Show, we were joined by Anne Asensio and Sean Carney. Anne is the Head of Design at Dassault Systemes and she talked us through what she has learnt working at many large companies and what advice she’d give to young designers out there. In late 2016, following the November elections, Anne Lee and a cohort of students in Sammamish, WA realized that the incoming Trump administration was unlikely to follow through with US commitments

In late 2016, following the November elections, Anne Lee and a cohort of students in Sammamish, WA realized that the incoming Trump administration was unlikely to follow through with US commitments under the Paris Climate Accord, an international agreement to reduce carbon emissions and prevent global temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees Celsius. Lee and her peers decided that if elected leaders wouldn’t take action, they would. She soon co-founded Schools Under 2C, a student-led organization that aims to raise awareness of climate change among students in the US and abroad. So far, Schools Under 2C — which has 80 student members — has reduced the monthly carbon footprint of Lee’s Tesla STEM high school by more than two tons. Lee has also implemented a compost program, lighting reduction plan, and use of a transportation incentive mobile app that encourages students to choose cleaner ways of commuting to school. Now Schools Under 2C is challenging other schools across the world to do the same, and 30 schools have already taken a pledge to join the Under 2C challenge.
