The Roundtable on SDG 9 and 17, "Partnerships for inclusive and sustainable digital development," will convene on March 29, 2023, from 15:00-18:00 CET. Co-organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), this hybrid event (online and in Geneva) is part of the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the UNECE Region.

This roundtable addresses the critical need to integrate green and digital transitions for the 2030 Agenda, aligning with the UN Secretary-General's Roadmap for Digital Cooperation. It will share policy recommendations for an inclusive, green digital transformation, focusing on robust ICT infrastructure, internet connectivity, and reviewing SDG 9 and 17 progress. Emphasizing systemic digital development, it highlights crucial collaboration between ICT and environmental sectors.

Dr. Jiang Nanqing examines the environmental impact of motor vehicles, proposing blockchain technology to incentivize reduced driving and reward car owners for lowering carbon emissions.

Her distinguished career includes serving at the UN Environment China Office (2008-2018) and leading the Plastic Recycling Branch of China Synthetic Resin Association (2018-2020). Since 2020, she chairs Beijing Green Inclusive Network Technology Co., Ltd., developing a green travel platform, and serves as Secretary-General for the All-China Environmental Protection Federation's Green Cycle Inclusive Committee.

During her confirmation hearing, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen reaffirmed her long-standing support for carbon pricing as a key climate change solution. She plans to appoint a senior official and establish a Treasury hub to focus on financial system risks and tax policy incentives related to climate change.

Yellen stressed that pricing emissions is a critical tool for governments to incentivize a transition to net-zero, though she acknowledged it is not the only necessary policy.
