The panel “Women Parliamentarians for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty” convened on June 27, 2025, as part of the virtual Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice. Co-hosted by Parliamentarians for a Fossil Fuel Free Future, the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, and WECAN, the panel featured Senators Cecilia Requena (Bolivia) and Rosa Galvez (Canada), and MPs Nusrat Hanje (Tanzania) and Zali Steggall (Australia), moderated by Tzeporah Berman.

Organized by the Women’s Earth and Climate Network (WECAN) from June 23-28, 2025, the Assembly united over 125 women leaders and policymakers from 50 countries. CCL's Legislative Coordinator, Morgan McCue, provides a legislative update on the new "Save Our Future Act." Introduced on June 16 by Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Brian Schatz, this landmark carbon pricing policy is similar to the 2019 American Opportunity Carbon Fee Act.

The legislation sets an ambitious carbon price to reduce U.S. emissions. It also addresses environmental justice, invests in coal communities for a clean energy transition, and protects American households with regular rebates and funding for further reductions.

John Hearin, Ph.D., explores the critical importance of our world's beaches as cultural treasures and vital economic engines. He will explain common methods for protecting these essential resources and how our decisions literally shape the shoreline.

Dr. Hearin, who grew up in Daytona Beach, holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Ocean Engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology, where he also served as an Assistant Research Professor. With over 15 years of active involvement, he currently chairs the Cocoa Beach chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.
