Robert H. Frank is the Henrietta Johnson Louis Professor of Management and Professor of Economics at Cornell's Johnson Graduate School of Management. He previously wrote the "Economic View" column for *The New York Times*.

How human waste can be transformed into sustainable fuel

A Kenyan company is transforming human faeces into eco-fuel, offering a sustainable energy alternative that combats deforestation. This innovative approach addresses energy demand while protecting forests.

The revolutionary fuel, made from human waste, sawdust, and rose waste, burns twice as long as local charcoal with one-third of the emissions. Each tonne sold saves approximately 88 trees, prevents pollution, and creates local jobs.

N. Scott Momaday, a celebrated writer, teacher, artist, and storyteller, will discuss his career at The City Club of Cleveland, Ohio, on September 28, 2018.

Momaday has dedicated his life to preserving Native American culture and oral tradition. Author of 13 books, he won the 1969 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for *House Made of Dawn*, considered the first novel of the Native American Renaissance. His accolades include the 2007 National Medal of Arts and the 2018 Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Lifetime Achievement.

2019 Was the 2nd-Hottest Year on Record

Independent analyses by NASA and NOAA confirm that Earth's global surface temperatures in 2019 ranked as the second-warmest since 1880. Temperatures were 2°F (1.1°C) warmer than the late 19th century, second only to 2016.

 

 

 

This data continues the planet's long-term warming trend, with the five warmest years on instrumental record all occurring in the last five years. More information is available at NASA's press release.
