About This Collection

EarthSayers.tv is the largest collection of voices speaking on behalf of Mother Earth hence its name. In this special collection we provide an introduction to the many voices advocating the rights of Mother Earth.  A core element of this advocacy is embodied in a document entitled, The Universal Declaration of Rights of Mother Earth Preamble.

The preamble begins "We, the peoples and nations of Earth: considering that we are all part of Mother Earth, an indivisible, living community of interrelated and interdependent beings with a common destiny...

Forest Keepers - Guarda Bosques in Español w/English Subtitles

On April 15, 2011, the indigenous Purepecha community of Cheran, Michoacan, Mexico, rebelled against organized crime, the logging industry, and corrupt government agencies. They used sticks, rocks, and bottle rockets to resist their "narco-government" that pillaged sacred forests.

Since then, Cheran has ousted all political parties and local/state police, seizing offices, weapons, and vehicles. The community re-established traditional self-governance, featuring a council of elders, a community police ("ronda"), and its "Guarda Bosques" (Forest Keepers) defense team.
