Heidi McCloskey is Communications Director for the Textile Exchange, a global B to B Marketplace for the textile industry. Heidi presented at the Fourth Annual Conference on Business and Sustainability sponsored by The Center for Global Leadership in Sustainability at the School of Business Administration in Portland State University, Portland, Oregon. Ms. McCloskey argues strongly for collaborating for innovation and thinking beyond the borders of competition.

Net Zero Energy and the local sourcing of materials are but two of the many features of the planned Oregon Sustainability Center (OSC), a 200,000+ square foot urban, mixed-use high rise. This is the collaborative vision of a unique public/private partnership between city and state government, higher education, nonprofit organizations and the business community.
Dennis Wilde is a Principal at Gerding Edlen Development and and is a nationally respected green building expert and helped create the Sustainable Solutions division of GEDI. Mr. Wilde has more than 20 years of experience in urban planning and design, and has been active in construction and real estate development since 1980. Mr. Wilde, who joined GEDI in 1997, is responsible for feasibility studies, management of the pre-construction and construction process, tenant improvement coordination and overall project management. One such idea is neighborhood-based systems called EcoDistricts. In this interview, he talks about how can reduce consumption and address the need for thinking of close loop systems. Very narrowed silo-ing thinking needs to be replaced by wholistic ways of thinking and de-centralized (appropriately scaled) systems.

Kate Miller is a Portland-based designer at Kate Miller
Sustainable Interiors specializing in all aspects of lighting design
with an emphasis in energy conservation. She
talks about her latest project with QUAD Inc. a non-profit offering a
unique independent living option for low-income adults with severe
physical disabilities as well as her career in sustainable design and
energy conservation. She emphasizes collaboration and trust as keys to
success and calls for a focus this year on social equity. For more
