Scaling Quinoa as Bhutan’s Special Agricultural Product (non-technical)

In 2021, Bhutan designated quinoa as its "One Country One Product" (OCOP), valuing its high nutrition, farmer income potential, export suitability, and climate resilience for mitigating agricultural impacts.

Supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Bartsham Gewog's quinoa is becoming a Geographical Indication and Environmental Sustainability (GIES) product. This certifies its unique origin, traditional farming, and sustainable practices, boosting its value and access to premium markets.
