Olympic gold medalist Jill Savery is a leading expert in sports sustainability. As Head of Sustainability for the America's Cup Event Authority, she has advised organizations including the United States Olympic Committee, the London 2012 Organizing Committee, and FIFA World Cup bid teams on embedding sustainable practices into their operations.

An International Swimming Hall of Fame inductee, Savery earned a Master's Degree from Yale University and coached athletes for over two decades. She frequently speaks on sustainability and sport, and co-edited the book *Sustainability and Sport*, available on Amazon. She was interviewed by Ruth Ann Barrett of EarthSayers.tv in September 2013 at the America's Cup finals.

Participants will identify and reflect on societal assumptions, insights, and blind spots. In an interview with Jungle Bird, Rebecca Moore, a computer scientist and software professional at Google, discussed her impactful work. She famously used Google Earth to halt the logging of over a thousand acres of redwoods in her Santa Cruz Mountain community.

Moore also initiated and leads the development of Google Earth Engine, a new technology platform supporting global-scale data-mining of satellite imagery for societal benefit. As Coordinator of Aboriginal Student Services and a spoken word artist, Thomas draws from her family’s residential school history to highlight the lack of First Nations perspectives in Halifax’s history. She uses her platform to bring a cultural voice to public discussion, believing poetry empowers the voiceless and fosters healing. “Poetry can give a voice to the voiceless. Poetry can make a powerless person feel powerful. This is why I speak,” she states.

Dr. Mehaffy is an internationally recognized urban development researcher, educator, and consultant. He directs the Sustasis Foundation, an Oregon non-profit focused on urban issues, and has held academic appointments in seven countries. His experience includes consulting for Portland and Metro, teaching at the University of Oregon, and managing the pioneering Orenco Station transit-oriented development.

With a keen interest in Portland's urban successes and lessons, Dr. Mehaffy considers the city a second home, though he now lives in the Columbia Gorge.
